Blackpink Members Decline Solo Contracts With YG Entertainment

Blackpink, the globally successful K-pop group consisting of Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé, will no longer be managing their solo careers under YG Entertainment. The South Korean agency confirmed the news in an official press release on Friday.

While the four members will continue to work with YG Entertainment as a group, they have chosen to pursue their individual projects outside the company. “We will do our utmost to support Blackpink’s group activities, and we wholeheartedly cheer for each member’s personal endeavors,” YG Entertainment stated in a translated announcement.

Previously, when YG confirmed the renewal of Blackpink’s group contract, the company reassured fans that the group was preparing a new album and a world tour. “Blackpink will continue to shine in the global music industry, representing not only our company but K-pop as a whole. We remain dedicated to supporting them and their fans,” the statement read.

Blackpink was formed by YG Entertainment in 2016 and has since become one of the biggest K-pop acts worldwide. As the group’s popularity soared, industry insiders speculated that their contracts would require major adjustments to reflect their growing influence. Their most recent world tour spanned 34 cities with 66 performances, attracting 2.1 million attendees, according to YG Entertainment.

Individually, each member has been expanding her career beyond the group. Jisoo recently made her solo debut with the single album Me, while Jennie, who released her first solo project in 2018, has since launched her own label, Odd Atelier (OA). Earlier this year, Jennie also made her acting debut in HBO’s The Idol.

With this decision, the members of Blackpink now have full control over their solo careers while maintaining their collective identity under YG Entertainment. Fans around the world eagerly await what’s next for both their group and individual ventures.
